Comparison
Fly.io alternative
Unbroker is a Fly.io alternative when you want a hosted PaaS to build apps from Git, instead of placing Machines yourself. You can add a managed database cluster or a Linux cloud server in the same account. Fly.io bills Machines per second while they run, and its published compute prices vary by region.
For a root virtual machine, see Linux cloud server hosting.

| Topic | Unbroker | Fly.io |
|---|---|---|
| What you run | Cloud Apps are platform services built from Git, or on Pro from a Dockerfile or image. Linux cloud servers are a separate virtual machine you administer. | Fly.io runs apps as Machines. Started Machines are billed per second. Stopped or suspended Machines are billed for root filesystem size, which Fly documents separately. |
| Regions | Linux cloud servers are offered in the European Union, US Central, US East, and US West, at one monthly price. App services are not a scheduler you pin to a long region list. | Fly.io publishes many regions and a price multiplier per region for Machine CPU and RAM. Volumes are not given that multiplier. See their regions and pricing pages for the current list. |
| Plans | Free is $0: 1 project, up to 2 services, and 3 deploys per UTC day. Each service is capped at 250m CPU and 256 MiB, with 10 GB of outbound transfer a month. Free does not include persistent volumes, servers, managed databases, Beacon, Dockerfiles, or container images. Pro is $25 per month and includes $25 of usage credit for that billing cycle. The credit does not roll over. Usage above the credit is added to the invoice. Pro has unlimited members and no seat fee. | Fly.io's Machines pricing is usage, not a Hobby or Pro bundle. Managed Postgres is sized by cluster plan. This page does not copy their per-hour Machine rates. |
| Databases | You can run a database image as a private Apps service, or provision a provider-operated managed cluster. The API supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Valkey, MongoDB, Kafka, and OpenSearch. The create flow shows which combinations the selected provider and region offer. Managed clusters require Pro, and recovery features depend on the engine and plan. | Fly.io documents Managed Postgres in a subset of regions. Confirm the region on their regions page before you treat it as available. |
| Who operates the host | Unbroker operates the app platform. If you buy a Linux cloud server, you operate that operating system. | You choose where Machines run. Fly.io operates the hardware under them. You still size CPU, RAM, and volumes. |
Region placement is the real difference
Fly.io is built so you can run Machines close to users and see a different compute price in Tokyo than in Ashburn. Unbroker does not publish that kind of region menu for app services. The Linux server catalogue is four regions at the same monthly price.
If the requirement is a specific city, or a failover list across continents, Fly.io's model matches that requirement and Unbroker's app platform does not. If the requirement is a Git push, a managed database, and one bill, the extra region controls are work you may not want.
When to pick Fly.io instead
- You need to place compute in specific regions and accept that Machine CPU and RAM prices differ by region.
- You want per-second billing of a Machine you sized, including the option to stop it, rather than Unbroker's configured app capacity.
- You are already on Fly.io's private network and Machines, and moving regions is the expensive part.
When to pick Unbroker instead
- You want Git deploys, managed databases, and optional Linux servers without operating a Machine per process.
- A short region list at one server price is enough, and you do not need Fly.io's region multipliers.
Questions
Is Unbroker a Fly.io alternative?
For a hosted place to run a web app, API, or worker from Git, yes. It is not a drop-in replacement for Fly Machines, region pinning, or Fly.io's Anycast network.
Does Unbroker bill by the second like Fly.io?
No. Paid Unbroker app CPU and memory follow the configured capacity while the service runs. Fly.io bills a started Machine per second at the price of the CPU and RAM preset, with a regional multiplier.
Can I pick the same regions as Fly.io?
No. Linux cloud servers are limited to the European Union, US Central, US East, and US West. Fly.io publishes a longer region list.
